Advanced Web info
Our Spanish Language School in Peru offers the exceptional opportunity to study Spanish while immersed in Peruvian culture.
Other activities, such as Quechua Language Courses, workshops on Latin American Culture and daily Student Activities, make our spanish school a distinctive educational destination in the former capital of the majestic Inca Empire.
The School is located in a colonial building only one block from the main square, the Plaza de Armas. The building also incorporates the Student House in a lovely setting with a sunny terrace. On top of that, there are local host families, who offer a welcoming living environment.
Currently, the School program runs at three locations: the beautiful city of Cusco, the picturesque village of Taray (in the Sacred Valley of the Incas) and the Rainforest of Manu. Take advantage of studying at either or all three locations, each highlighting a different aspect of Peruvian culture. Our Volunteer Program provides the unique opportunity to live and work in Peru, while cultivating a superior level of Spanish proficiency.
Our school offers you customized tuition at the level and pace especially suited to your personal goals. Our school is known for its interactive, communicative and personal teaching methods. All standard programs include four hours of private or group instruction per day. Additional hours can be arranged for.
Free daily student activities are included in all programs (cooking, dancing, music, lectures on Peruvian Culture and History, movies, a welcome dinner) as well as all lesson materials, unlimited use of internet, an student discount card, a certificate and a walking tour in town during the first day. Especially the cultural courses are really popular. A great way of improving your Spanish while listening to and participating in activities all directed towards learning in a dynamic environment where you will learn about Latin American Peruvian culture. One hour every day, free included in your program!
Interactive, Communicative Teaching
Successfully implementing the interactive method totally depends on the personal attention your teacher is able to give you. Therefore, our groups are small and all courses are (super) intensive. The make-up of the group is determined according to the students abilities; the first day of the course begins with an oral and written placement test.
Levels
There are four levels (with consequent sublevels), in accordance with the curriculum of the Instituto Cervantes and their equivalents in the Council of Europe. Each level takes between five and eight weeks to complete in full.
Beginners (A1+A2)
For those without any knowledge of the Spanish Language. Upon completion, the student will be able to formulate and understand short sentences relating to basic necessities and forms of politeness.
Intermediate (B1)
This course will bring the student to a higher level of comprehension and expression. The student will be able to express themselves, perhaps sometimes with a little difficulty, but usually spontaneously and independently, in everyday situations. This level includes a revison of basic structures and an extension of grammatical structures (past tenses).
Advanced (B2)
The student will have advanced communication ability, even in complicated situations. The student will work extensively on past tenses and be introduced to the subjunctive.
Superior (C1+C2)
Clearing up minor imperfections. Refining pronunciation and intonation. The student will communicate, without difficulty, with people who are native Spanish speakers. Errors and deficiencies in grammar structures that still exist will be corrected.
Suitable accommodation is an important component to a professional, effective Spanish Program. That's why our school currently offers 2 different options of accommodation within the city of Cusco: local guest families (two categories) and the Student Houses, one located in the school's building and the other one right in front, and Student Flats, located in residential neighborhoods in Cusco. A student may arrange his/her own accommodation in Cusco and simply participate in the language course. However, we recommend the total package if a student wishes to maximise his/her language skills. The experience of living with a Peruvian family or living with other students in one of the school's residences provides more practice opportunities and therefore enhances a student's ability to converse in Spanish.
Guest Family
GUEST FAMILY (STANDARD)
The Guest Family option has been developed particularly for those who wish to make a cultural journey with the aim of not only learning the Spanish language but also about Peru, through the experiences, life and customs of a Peruvian family.
Our guest families are carefully chosen and monitored through regular inspections and student feedback. Most of them live about 20-30 minutes walking distance from the school. The student will always have his/her own private room and will share other facilities with the family. Guest families provide three meals a day. Special diets, such as those for vegetarians, diabetics may be catered for.
GUEST FAMILY PLUS (EXTRA)
Currently, we are working with families in both Standard and Plus Packages. The Plus Package offers students a slightly higher comfort level, in terms of the house and room being of a larger size, the food being more adapted to the students' desires, and a courtyard or garden. The Lodging Plus package is especially suited for those who want to be away from the bustling city centre.
STUDENT HOUSE SUECIA
