A business niche is not hard to find. I will outline below and discuss the topics you need to understand when deciding on a business niche.
1. What are your interests?
2. What are you good at?
3. How will you apply the two topics above to the Internet?
First, what are your interests? Take a sheet of paper and write down your interest. It can be anything. You want to come up with at least 20 different interests, for example, skydiving, hunting, computers, poker, dating, and sex to name a few. Okay, I put sex in there to help you understand your interest can be anything. Now that you have at least 20 interest identified, it’s time for the next step.
Take the interest that you have written down and put a checkmark beside the ones that you are good at. To explain further, what you are good at and what interest you are two different things. I can say that web design interest me, but I might not be good at it or have a profound knowledge of it. So, I wouldn’t put a checkmark beside web design. Now, you are going to put some importance beside the checkmarks in the form of a number. That’s right, number your interest that you are good at. The interest that is number 1 will be the most important to you.
That’s all you have to do to find a niche that you will be successful in. The reason you will be successful is because your niche is what you value. You will be motivated to start your business designed around this niche because you don’t have to work at understanding it. You already know it. You are a master at it. Take that knowledge and run with it. Be wise when starting your business. You’ll need a business plan. A business without a business plan is doomed.

Okay, you’ve found your niche. That’s great. Now in order to profit from your niche you need to have a plan. That’s right, a business plan. I know it sounds complicated, but it’s really not. All you have to do is follow my simple steps below.
In our business plan we are going to outline certain goals. We are not going to worry about making a traditional business plan. This is complicated and can be confusing at times. Our business plan is going to outline our goals. It’s a simple document you can go to in order to check your progress.
First I want you to take a piece of paper and write down your business niche at the top. That will serve as your business name for now.
Next, I want you to write down four ways your business niche will help someone. For example, if my business niche was dog training, I would write down the following:
1. I can make a dog training guide to help people train their dog.
2. I can write articles about dog training to provide people tips on training their dog.
3. I can write reviews about dog training products to help people choose the best one to use.
4. I can sell dog training products.
Using these four lines I want you to come up with your company’s purpose. Below the four “people helping” line write “Company Purpose”. What do you want to provide to your customers? For example, my purpose would be:
My dog training website will be a content based website providing my customers articles on dog training tips.
As you can see I only used one of the four “people helping” lines. You can use all of them if you want. It’s really up to you.
Now that you have a purpose it’s time to make goals. We will use our purpose to establish our first set of goals. Now, your goals will not change. What I mean is, you can add to your goals, but never take away. Once you set a goal in writing you have to accomplish it. If you don’t, you will always fall short and never be successful. Below are the goals that I have pulled from our purpose.
1. Build a dog training website. (This might need to be broken down into mini goals if you don’t have website design knowledge. This can also be outsourced.)
2. Research dog training content online to see what is out there.
3. Research business resources will need to accomplish my goals.
